    Avis was originally assumed to be the daughter of James Webb, but James died in 1837, just before the birth of Avis' sister Mercy.

    Mother Sarah married William Luxford in 1843, a year after Avis' birth. William was in her household in the 1841 census.

    William may be Avis' father, but in the 1851 census Avis is noted as daughter-in-law (presumably step-daughter) to William and her surname is given as Webb.

    In 1861 census, as a servant, not with her mother and family, Avis gives her surname as Luxford.

    On Avis' marriage certificate, her father is given as James.
